We at LUMI are incredibly proud to be Canadian—and more inspired than ever to share the values that lie at the heart and soul of our company.

We developed LUMI to address a pressing environmental challenge: the millions of single-use, plastic glow sticks produced and discarded every year. These traditional glow sticks, which have been widely used for everything from concerts to military signaling, not only contribute to plastic waste but also rely on toxic chemicals. Inspired by a wave of sustainable innovation—and driven by our belief in a healthier future—we set out to offer an alternative.

It’s time to move beyond glow sticks with origins in USA military research and outdated, disposable design. We’re offering a sustainable option for a brighter, cleaner future.

We got started when it felt like the world was moving in a better direction (pre-Trump presidency and before COVID-19). Today, however, we face policies and practices that threaten the well-being of people and the planet. It is more important than ever to stand up against regressive policies and corporate and governmental corruption. Because we are committed to creating a healthier future for everyone, we know that our approach is exactly the kind of change that challenges the status quo (which is insane). 

We use humor to make our point, but at our core, our mission is serious. We look to history and see the power of communities coming together, progressive social programs, and strong safeguards against abuses of power. We believe that by holding fast to our values, we can help build the future we all deserve.

Let this be the wake up call to us all to never take that future for granted.
